How to have the BEST European Summer
European summer provides an engaging mix of culture, adventure, and relaxation, making it a favored season for travelers exploring the continent. The warm weather, rich history, and stunning settings foster experiences that leave lasting memories. Coastal towns in regions like Italy and Spain come alive during summer, bustling with tourists. Cafés spill onto sidewalks, where locals and visitors alike indulge in fresh pastries and coffee, soaking up the sun. As a Black American, European summers provides home away from home feeling and a luxury vibe. Europe is a great place to Visit because there’s a mix of sight-seeing and beach vibes. It’s also easier to visit other countries in one trip.
Here’s some tips to have the BEST European Summer:
Decide your destinations.
Start your planning for European summer by deciding what destinations you want to visit. It’s not truly a European summer if you do not hop around to different countries or areas of Europe. I suggest starting with your main destination and then finding other destination in the surrounding area. For example, if I am visiting London as my main destination, I am going to add Paris to the itinerary since it’s a 2 hour train ride. Plan according to your allotted time. Spend at least two weeks in Europe exploring many destinations for the full summer experience. More stamps, the merrier.
2. Pack Light.
What Erykah Badu say? “One day all them bags gon get in your way.” And in this case, those bags are getting in your way of exploring Europe. Pack light for your destinations because transportation and the luxury of car service maybe limited in certain areas. In other words, you may have to carry or lift your luggage up steps, through cobble stone, etc. so pack light.
Include portable charger, wash cloth, carbon monoxide monitor, and universal outlet port. These necessary items are not usuallyincluded with hotel or Airbnb stay. Clothing should be light (linen) and practical (tennis shoes). There’s lots of walking so pack those practical outfits with a few instagrammable fits.
3. Download transportation apps and maps.
Download Rome2rio and other transportation apps that will help you get around. The train system is Europe is an efficient way to hop from city to city, and even countries depending on location. In some locations, Ubers are limited so be aware of other transportation methods. Download WhatsApp to connect with family and friends back in the States without being charged international fee.
4. Find events.
Europe has many events and festivals during the summer. Look for events up for your destinations. For example, Beyoncé will be in London for her Cowboy Carter tour on June 5th. Jubilee 2025 will be in Rome this summer with festivals, concerts, opera performances. Royal Ascot is another event to attend in London in June. Wimbledon is in London in July.
5. Be Adaptable
Europe has less accessibility and convenience than the States which means being adaptable to your environment and culture. There will not be air conditioner in every part of the hotel, the rooms are smaller and do not include iron. Service at restaurants are slower as the culture is more about conversations than speedy service. Embrace the culture and adapt. As the saying goes, “when in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
Overall, have the best European summer by keeping these tips in mind and being adaptable to another culture. Soak up the sun, compliments, and great dishes. Where are you spending your European Summer?
