6 Book Festivals and Events to Attend in 2025

I met Kennedy Ryan and now I am OBSESSED with meeting authors. Meeting Kennedy Ryan and her amazing hug healed something in me. More than anything, it empowered me to continue drowning myself in fiction novels because what’s life without imagination.

As a black woman who loves books, I decided to research some book festivals that highlight Black authors and celebrate Black identity.

In 2025, several notable Black book festivals are poised to celebrate African American literature, culture, and authors. These events provide a platform for writers, readers, and literary enthusiasts to engage in discussions, workshops, and book signings. Here’s the list:

1. Black History Book Fair with Indie Authors

When: February 1

Where: Detroit

Detroit Book City will host its 3rd annual Black History Month Book Fair with Indie Authors, residents, and businesses. Expect to meet 15 local authors that will speak about books, writing, and storytelling.

2. The African American Children’s Book Fair

When: February 1

Where: Philadelphia

The African American Children’s book fair will be held in Philadelphia that highlights, promotes, and sells book by and about African Americans for preschool and young adult.

3. A Million Lives Book Festival

When: May 2-3

Where: Baltimore

A Million Lives Book Festival is a two-day festival with panels, authors, and book discussions. The festival features authors from a wide range of genres from fantasy, science-fiction to romance and non-fiction.

4. Black Romance Book Festival

When: May 30-June 1

Where: Atlanta

Black Romance Book Festival includes gifted Black romance writers, thought-provoking panels, and other entertainment and activities. Tickets are currently sold out but check the facebook group for re-sale options.

5. African American Book Festival

When: June 21

Where: Charlotte

African American Book Festival in Charlotte highlights emerging authors, bookstores, and publishers in African American literary space. The event will feature exhibits, author discussions, book signing, and networking.

6. Black Writers Weekend

When: July 31-August 2

Where: Atlanta

Black Writers Weekend is designed to empower Black writers through workshops, networking sessions, and presentations. It includes a variety of events focused on writing, publishing, and promoting Black voices in the literary community.
