BLACK GIRL'S GUIDE TO GLAMPING!

I decided to FINALLY try glamping. A couple of friends and I decided to take a trip to Las Vegas and Arizona as a COVID getaway. I am also a sucker for new adventures and new experiences. So the ideas started brewing.

As we are booking hotels, I suggested we try glamping. Glamorous camping. Apart of my exploration of Arizona, I wanted to find a space to just be. To write. To be vulnerable. To feel free. A space that was new. Air that was different than the suburban air I have been breathing for the last 6 months.

So I searched through Airbnb and found this "Glamorous Glamping Under the Stars" listing that was a dome near Grand Canyon, Arizona in the desert. The dome included a king size bed, a small day bed, a heater, a mini fridge and a skylight. The bed is perfectly placed right above the skylight where we could see the stars shine through at night.

The private bathroom is a couple feet away from the dome and was extremely clean and modern. The bathroom included a sink, shower and toilet. The toilet was a composting toilet however clean and fresh. I am pretty skeptical about the cleanliness of bathrooms but this outdoor bathroom exceeded my expectations. Truly Glamping Style.

We wanted to get to the dome earlier than we arrived however we stayed a little longer at Grand Canyon than expected. We arrived in the evening and was exhausted from hiking and the drive (I would advise to get to the dome before the sun goes down because of the limited lights on the road). After putting on the heater, we were cozy and ready to watch the stars.

The moment my head touched the pillow I felt dreamy. My eyes set on the skylight and I gazed at the stars. The G A Z E. I appreciated God's creation in this moment. I thought about how the stars are numbered by God and imagined what each star name would be. I gazed at the stars in silence for most of the night.

By morning, the sun crept in the dome and put a smile on my face. I sat and wrote peacefully. I was able to journal and work on some other writing projects. I was able to allow my pen to flow without distractions. When I did become distracted, I danced in the desert, danced in the dome and let go of my fears. My ideas started to flow even more. I was able to unlock my creativity.

My only disappointment is that I did not book more days to spend in the dome. Since this experience, I have promised myself to book a dome, small home or something similar every couple of months to unwind and write. I encourage all creatives to do the same. Find a dome in the middle of nowhere and go create.
