I went last year during labor day weekend and here's the blessings and curses of the event:
Blessings
Ambiance. The ambiance was filled with joy, blackness, wine and pink. I smiled, complimented and danced with beautiful black women and men. The hues of melanin mixed with the hues of pink glistened in the sun. It was clear that we owned the picnic and was unapologetically bougie and black.
The Price. The wine ticket (the ticket I purchased) was $100 and included admission, rose' bottle, cup, Celebrez en Rose' bag and picnic blanket. The price was reasonable for what was included.
Location. The festival was held at National Harbor in view of the water. It was a perfect location to enjoy the festival and even watch the sunset. It was a beautiful backdrop for the festival.
Drink Specials. In addition to the complimentary bottle, I bought a frose (rose as a slushy) and it was made with just enough rose and ice. It was the perfect drink for a cool down.
Curses
Lack of organization. It was evident the lack of organization of this event. There were no clear lines nor directions. Patrons were not given the complimentary items as they entered. Instead, a ticket was given to collect those items on the other side of the entrance.
Overcrowded Lines. This is probably the top curse for the entire event. Line after line after line. I fortunately was able to skip the entrance line and head to VIP line (S/O to the beautiful black woman who allowed me to walk with her in VIP). However, my friends stood in the line for 40 minutes prior to me. There was also a very unorganized line to get complimentary items such as the bottle of rose. I stood in that line for over an hour. I did not get to enjoy the festival the first hour because of extensive lines.
Music Issues. In certain areas of the event, the music was not loud enough to enjoy. There were also so many other games and activities that it was hard to connect with the music part of the festival. I do believe a DJ would've sufficed for this picnic.
Despite the curses, I enjoyed the experience and look forward to the improvements next year! I will be bougie&black&pink ready!
