Labor Day Trips from DMV

Summer is winding down and Labor day is ahead of us. Labor day usually is the last holiday before fall season and back-to-school season. If you are anything like me, I usually don’t like to travel far during Labor day weekend. I enjoy day trips and quick weekend getaways to refresh myself to start 4th quarter strong. Here’s some day trip ideas for a quick Labor day weekend getaway:

  1. Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is the city of brotherly love and close to DMV. Philadelphia is about 2 hours away with many attractions and food spots to try. I love Philly because it reminds me of home, Baltimore. It has an urban flair yet artsy and sophisticated vibe to it. Usually, Made in America, a music festival is held during Labor day weekend in Philly but this year has been cancelled. There’s still plenty to do in Philly labor day weekend. My suggestions:

Where to stay: Four Seasons Spa

    Where to eat: Steak 48.

I love this high scale restaurant for the service, food, and luxury atmosphere. Every time I visit Steak 48, it is a luxurious experience. The food is expensive but worth every penny.

    Where to shop: 2nd Street

This designer vintage shop sells everything from current hot items such as Hanifa and Marni to older vintage such as True Religion. I loved looking through old designer items and finding some gems.

    Activities: Aqua Vida

A relaxing activity for couples, friends, or solo. Combining paddle boarding with yoga and fitness, this activity is challenging and relaxing. Try a new activity while visiting Philly.

2. Linden, VA

I am a sucker for great wine and amazing views. Linden, Virginia, about an hour and half from DC, has just that. This small town is known for its many wineries and landscape views. It is a perfect day trip and quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. I love to visit wineries with my friends and/or significant other and wine down. Or turn up. Either way, let the wine speak for you.

Where to stay: Salamander Resort

This black-owned resort is immaculate and comes with a hefty price tag. But for the luxury girls and even bougie girls on a budget, one night at this resort is worth every penny. Some amenities include indoor/outdoor pool, spa, and horse back riding.

Where to eat: Harriman’s Virginia Piedmont Grill

Activities: Crimson Lane Vineyard

This vineyard has spectacular views and great customer service. This winery is made for the lux black girl who enjoy charcuterie boards and lounge seating. The wine selections, ambiance, and hospitality is impeccable.

3. New York City

New York City will always have a place in my heart because of my fashion background. About 4 hours from DC, It is also the sex in the city. Although there’s a hustle and bustle spirit about NYC, I enjoy the endless events and things to do. After all, it is the city that never sleeps. NYC is a great place to visit for labor day for my sex in the city gals.

Where to stay: Ace Hotel Brooklyn

Where to eat: Breakfast at Tiffany’s Blue Box Cafe

Tiffany’s has been a dream jewelry collection since I have been a teenager. It represents the ultimate lux and sex in the city vibes. Well now you can have breakfast at Tiffany’s-literally. You need reservations or first come basis. Get to Blue Box Tiffany’s early without reservation for a seat at the bar.

Where to shop: 5th ave NYC

Activities: There’s a variety of activities in NYC that can match the energy and vibe you are looking for. Remember, NYC never sleeps so it is possible to participate in all activities in one day.
