Lost in Los Angeles

As I boarded the plane six in the morning-eastern time, I became nervous. For the first time, I was going to a different city and state with no real direction, itinerary or true destination in mind. I knew the original intent of the trip had changed. I initially booked the trip to find a fashion internship there to work during the summer. Mentally, I was tired. I had just finished my first year of teaching at an alternative high school, I was in the healing process of a break up and I had no inspiration to give to the fashion industry.

I was running away......alone.

I had some time in between my check-in for my Airbnb (my experience here: What No One tells you about Airbnb) so I decided to head straight to Venice Beach, the artsy beach in LA which has a boardwalk full of hipsters, bike riders, scooter riders and work-out enthusiasts. I had visited Venice boardwalk some times before but never was able to enjoy the beach part because the weather was chilly. I drove the thirty-five minute drive from LAX to Venice, paid nine dollars for parking, changed into my "WestCoast" one piece and dived into the sand. What am I suppose to do in this big city? Yes, my friends were ready to take me out and show me their city but I had this urging feeling to be alone. I sat on the beach alone, something I had never done before.

For the first time in a long time, I felt peace.

There is something about the waves of the ocean and the birds chirping that always make me feel peaceful. As I dipped my feet into the sandy bottom of the beach and let the waves carry me, I realized that I wanted to get lost in Los Angeles.I wanted to explore the city in my own way, on my own time, and do things that would ultimately help me find inner peace and smile with purpose again.

So I got lost in the city of Angels and it felt magical.
