DRIVE-IN MOVIES DURING COVID

One of my favorite pastimes has come back in popular demand due to COVID-19 and social distancing.

DRIVE-IN MOVIES.

As a child, my parents used to take us to the drive-in movies for a fun activity. We had a truck so my parents would lay the seats down in the back and put blankets down so we could watch the movie comfortably. Sometimes, my step-dad would put blankets on the top of the truck and let us sit on the top. We would even play at the playground that was in the parking lot of the drive in movies if we arrived before the movie started. Good 'ol 90s and 2000s.

Most movie theaters have shut down because of COVID but the Drive-In Movies is still available. Celebrities such as Michael B. Jordan even got involved with Drive-In movies phenomenon.

Michael B. Jordan curated A Night at the Drive-In, free drive-in movie experience through Amazon Prime. His picks included some black movie classics such as Love and Basketball and Get Out. I had the opportunity to watch Love and Basketball at my hometown Drive-In movies, Bengies.

I felt very nostalgic when I drove up to Bengies for Love and Basketball screening. I was reminded of childhood and the great memories of getting popcorn from Bengie's snack shop and running to the playground shortly after. Michael B. Jordan and Amazon Prime decided to provide some healthy snacks for the movie. I still indulged in my favorite, popcorn and m&m's.

I enjoyed watching the movie and having this nostalgic moment. COVID has shut down normal life for most of us but it has definitely taken me back to my childhood roots and embracing the simple things in life. Watching my favorite classics such as Clueless, Mean Girls, Love and Basketball is always a treat. And to watch it at the Drive-In movies is even better.

Go to your local drive-in movies, bring a blanket, popcorn and m&m's, wine and enjoy your favorite movies. It is great date-night idea!
